I recently use Gentoo Catalyst to build so called
stage4 for my EeePC 901. But ... First, the stable builds have bug which really does not fixed since 2008.0 release ... I tried use
prescott cpu target (which right for Atom) but It failed to build.
So I grab some patch from Gentoo bugzilla and it works. But ... It really does have some problem because (some bad) design of Portage and also Gentoo Catalyst itself. I found that catalyst do good on cross compile and make anything consistent. But portage cannot solve circular dependencies on building stage4, and more, it does not update use flags on stage3 packages (@system) for stage4
This is another bug that I go to fix it myself by adding only --deep --newuse to the emerge command in build stage4 target script.

Again for my EeePC 901. eeepc-acpi ebuild. In fact, there is nothing, just a skeleton for linux_mod eclass.
But hey.... 2.6.27 does not need it.

For EeePC 901 / EeePC 1000 Users and others.
I have done Gentoo ebuild for Ralink RT2860 Linux Wireless Driver (net-wireless/ralink-rt2860-1.8.0.0), you can grab my ebuild here. This may need firmware from Ralink to work.
Note: I have updated from 1.8.0.0 to 1.8.0.0-r1, Enable WPA Supplicant support by default and add networkmanager use flags to support linux wext and NetworkManager
This is official Ralink's GPL drivers.
For the drivers of official kernel tree (RT2x00), currently rt2x00 project does not release any drivers for RT2860 at all (It done some in git, but not consider usable because it incomplete). I think it will be out for test around 2.6.30. Drivers from rt2x00 are based on mac80211 stack and much better in linux userland support.
If you have RT61, RT73, RT24xx and RT25xx, suggested to use rt2x00 drivers from offical source tree, available from 2.6.24 and later.

Slow deploying 3G ... Looks like NTC will not issue 2.1GHz License for 3G (UMTS2100) mobile but push mobile operator to use old 850MHz (DTAC) and 900MHz (AIS-GSM) Band for WCDMA 850 and WCDMA 900 for 3G instead...
For broadbrand internet access, forgot the WCDMA 3G. All mobile operator including public telephone operator and media provider looks forward to deploy WiMax nationwide because WiMax possibly have more progress than 3G, more attractive. At least NTC have allow trail WiMax license this year and start to issue official WiMax License next year (... Same time as 3G will goes official also, back in 2004 which government talking about 3G but now, no 3G in use at all).
How many WCDMA 850 and 900 In the market ? ... Less than 5%
So IMHO ... WiMax will ... indeed ... go more popular in broadbrand service than 3G. Moreover, people living in apartment or domitory which usually have such bad and expensive internet connection that monopoly by some company would be happy to use WiMax instead.

Wow !!! The Latest Thailand's Internet MAP (20080806) is quite interesting !!
Most noticable update is TIG-IIG ...
Yea,
TIG-IIG not an traditional International GATEWAY anymore. They becoming International Exchange Point and Internaional Provider.
Now TIG-IIG have peers with some large content provider such as Microsoft, Yahoo in Singapore and US along with many of international internet provides from US,KR and SG and
expected more to coming.
Moreover, IPv6 connectivity also included in lastest map as well. In fact, IPv6 have been pushed by Global IPv6 Forum
to be readily available to end-users within year 2010 because current IPv4 address maintained by IANA now being
exhausted within year 2010 and probably will be fully utilized as soon as year 2015.
Good to go IPv6 !

ActiveState releases cut-down version of Komodo IDE as Komodo Edit a few months ago. I am very impressed the improvements.
By the powerful of XUL engine (same as Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird or
Mozilla Suite). Komodo Edit supports Unicode and built-in browsers
based on Gecko (and can also use Firefox). Moreover, It does have
extensions support like Firefox (And most of it usable both Komodo Edit
and Komodo IDE). Some extensions are ported from Komodo to Firefox and
vice versa and for sure.

Setup Compiz-Fusion on Gentoo took a day for me. Even Gentoo Xeffects Wiki is a good place to start.
But before Compiz, I need XGL. Installing XGL is straightforward and easy compared to Compiz Fusion.
The guide available on Xeffects Wiki itself.
I have my own script that may help everyone who want to try Compiz-Fusion on Gentoo, just run it.
You will have fully functional compiz out of your box (But you still need to setup XGL or AIGLX anyway).
This is link for my script
