GlusterFS - Good Parallel Network Clustered File System

This is one of real Clustered Parallel Network File System ... That really works.

It based on FUSE, It mean can use on every system support FUSE. Support raid-like over network, automatic replication, performance tuning.

Structure of GlusterFS is based on plugins call translators which act as each layer from virtual file system (client) to the physical file system (server). Some translater are for clustering, raid and replication, Some translator are for performance which can be enable weather on server, client or both such as cachine and read-ahead.

I choose it for my new production server (video download farm) that require server high availability, high disk capacity and clustering.  ompared to NFS, this works well even with locking (require some patches to FUSE) Now it works very well and have acceptable performance.


Forget OCFS, DLM and GFS if you don't wanna use it for database.
